It is a common perception that golf is played by old men and is not truly a sport. Aside from his personal accomplishments on the golf course, Tiger Woods is probably the most influential golfer to have changed that perception. Nike’s latest commercial drives home the point that golf is a sport and the greatest vindication is that golf will be a part of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio! Senior Columnist at Askmen, Ian Lang, takes a look at why golf is under-appreciated in his latest article and it definitely deserves a good read!
Ian Lang touches on a few topics in his article to support his view that golf is greatly under-appreciated! One example Ian gave was that the golf swing occurs on two planes, one around the body and the other being an up and down motion. In addition, hitting a motionless golf ball to a target may not be as easy at it seems. “Golf may not require great physical strength or endurance, but the training, repetition and raw coordination required to produce even a modicum of success are as demanding as any other sport.” And in what other sport can you play on the same course as the best players in the world? From Pebble Beach to Torrey Pines, these courses are all US Open courses and accessible by the public, much like the site of the 2015 US Open, Chambers Bay! Give Ian’s article a read so the next time a non-golfer scoffs at the game, you can be fully armed to reason with them!
