With the conclusion of the US Open at Merion Golf Club, the countdown has begun for the third major of 2013! This year, the Open Championship will be held at Muirfield, which is another venue full of history! The last time the Open was held at Muirfield was in 2002 but it will return this year on July 14!
During the US Open at Merion, we have seen countless footage of Ben Hogan’s iconic 1-iron as well as Lee Trevino beating Jack Nicklaus in a playoff at the 1971 US Open. It was the beginning of a great stretch of golf for Lee Trevino as he went on to win the Canadian Open as well as the first of his back to back British Open victories at Muirfield in 1971! Take a look at the video above to reflect on Lee’s historic victory at Muirfield. Will history be made again this year?
