We are taking a week away from our Canadian Course of the Week feature to showcase an unique future US Open course in the Pacific Northwest. As we introduced on our blog last week, Chambers Bay Golf Course was the host of the 2010 US Amateur Championship and future host the 2015 US Open Championship as well! It is located in University Place, Washington, which is approximately one hour South of Seattle. We were fortunate enough to play the course last week and what an experience it was!
From our arrival to the clubhouse, the view from an elevated position allowed us to view the entire golf course at a glance and it was absolutely breathtaking. Upon checking in, we were shuttled to their practice area where there was a grass driving range as well as a sizable short game practice area. About 15 minutes before our tee time, the shuttle picked us up again to head to the first tee.
Overall, Chambers Bay is a golf course unlike anything we have ever played. Chambers Bay was truly “designed to encourage the imaginative and creative shotmaking that epitomized links golf” and we can’t wait until 2015 to see how the pros handle the test that will be Chambers Bay. We definitely show a lot more appreciation for the skills of a Tour professional after our experiences!
At the championship tees, the course will play well over 7000 yards. It is also a walking only course, but you do have an option of hiring a caddie or using one of their pull carts. Having a caddie will probably help as they’ll tell you exactly where to land the ball to utilize the slopes of the fairways and greens – we ended up just purchasing a yardage book though, a lot of help on the course as well as a great souvenir!
