During the Japan Golf Fair this year, Mizuno Golf Japan took the opportunity to have visitors experience “GENEM fitting.” They tested and fitted 626 different people and the data they found was astonishing – almost 60% of people are wearing shoes that are not the right fit or size for them!
The development of the GENEM shoe came from accumulating foot type data for nearly 20,000 Japanese golfers. The human foot and shoes both have their own form – what Mizuno Golf Japan found from their GENEM fitting was that many people think that their feet are larger than they really are thus, buying shoes that do not fit well. This creates a displacement in the legs and shoes and may even affect one’s posture and back arch. Mizuno Golf Japan found that the most important thing is to match “foot length” first before evaluating foot width. With GENEM, there are a total of 180 sizes with 10 different variations of shoes, from size 24cm – 28cm. There are also three width sizing options, EE, EEE and EEEE as well as three different shoe models (001, 002 and 003). Mizuno Golf Japan also incorporates their “Infinity Wave Plate” into the heel of the shoe, creating high cushioning properties and a powerful stable swing base with a fine grain leather and IG4 spikes. They’ve drawn this technology from their renowned running footwear!
Not only does the shoe feel stable and durable, but it also helps to avoid foot fatigue on those long rounds. We’ve all been there, when fatigue towards the end of a round can cost us a lot of shots. Adding to the comfort of the shoe is a new, rounded heel support that is intended to lift and cradle the foot while a thicker forefoot padding reduces pressure to the areas that take the most strain through a golf swing. All this, plus the Infinity Wave Plate technology helps to stop lateral movement with its solid base and foundation, storing all of the swing power from the base up!
