We’ve seen a lot of rulings in this year’s Masters tournament than we can remember! We posted a Thursday and Friday review of the Masters yesterday, where we talked about the penalty on 14-year old amateur, Tianlang Guan, for slow play.
During Tiger’s round, there were two separate phone calls that contacted Augusta National directly about his drop. At first review, Tiger’s drop was deemed legal, however, after the second phone call discussing Tiger’s post-round interview where he said he “intentionally dropped the ball two yards behind the divot” (looked more like two feet on TV though!), it was deemed he did not “drop the ball closest to where he took his last shot.” Because it was a television called in ruling, Tiger was penalized two strokes rather than disqualified. Tiger has responded through his Twitter account – you can check it out here! Many players have pitched in their opinion, saying Tiger should withdraw – he will continue to play today though and is currently warming up on the range already. He’ll start the day at 1-under for the tournament. It’s moving day at the Masters, so let’s hope we see some low scores today!
