Tianlang Guan: 14 year old sensation

tianlangguan02

By now, the name Tianlang Guan is becoming more and more common among golf fans. This week, Tianlang will become the youngest participant ever to compete at the Masters at the age of 14! This also makes him the second youngest competitor in a Major Championship, behind Tom Morris, who competed in the 1865 Open Championship. Long story short, Tianlang qualified for the Masters last November by winning the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Chonburi, Thailand. He was a long shot as he was ranked 490th in the world amateur rankings at the time! But now, he gets to compete along side his golf hero, Tiger Woods!

Tianlang’s week got off to a good start as he was skipping balls along the pond on the 16th hole at Augusta with his hero, Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson during his afternoon practice round on Monday. ESPN wrote a wonderful article on Tianlang and his journey to Augusta and it’s definitely worth a read!

In other news, it sounds like Caroline Wozniacki will be caddying for her boyfriend, Rory McIlroy in the Par-3 Contest on Wednesday afternoon at Augusta. This was announced via Twitter so it’s not exactly official but of course, this immediately prompt questions on whether Lindsey Vonn will be making an appearance on Tiger’s bag! No word on that yet though!
