The geography of Canada sure is diverse! We already featured two golf courses that features semi-desert terrains at Tobiano Golf Course and The Dunes, both in the interior of British Columbia.
This week, we’re still featuring golf courses in the province of Alberta. Desert Blume, located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, is a world class golf course located in the heart of southern Alberta and part of the Canadian Bad Lands. As a semi-private golf club, golfers are able to purchase equity memberships, which makes membership a saleable asset. Members receive all the privileges and benefits of a first class country club while maintaining the right to sell the membership in the future and retain proceeds from the sale. However, the course also greets golfers of all abilities, offering four sets of tee boxes to offer playability for all.
From the back tees, Desert Blume can play up to 6885 yards – a tough challenge for any golfer. Being in a unique, desert-like environment also offers a golfing experience not found everyday! The course is carved out from cliffs and coulees and follows the Seven Persons Creek (or river, depending how you look at it!), which comes in play for 14 of the 18 holes at Desert Blume. Designers created a links-style course by following the land and working with the notched cliffs, tough grassland rough and lively stream (which actually flooded the course in 2010!). In addition to the creek, there are also many man-made water hazards as well. The course also features one single tree, a Russian Olive, on the first hole as the only tree hazard! In addition to golf, the area also consists of the Desert Blume Estates, a residential development around the golf course!
