We are staying in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in this week’s Course of the Week as we take you to the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Resort. The Fairmont Banff Springs Resort is located in Banff National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel was styled after a Scottish Baronial Castle and was opened in 1888. This was monumental as it marked the beginning of tourism in the Canadian Rockies and what’s tourism without some golf? The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Resort is not quite as old as it was “originally designed in 1928 by Canada’s master golf course architect, Stanley Thompson.” Nine more holes were added to the original eighteen in 1989, making a grand total of 27 holes of championship layout.
As seen in the pictures above, the golf course carves beautifully through the wilderness of Banff National Park. To be exact, the course “winds along the Bow River and under the snow-capped peaks of Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle.” This results in a course that’s not only challenging but breathtaking and mesmerizing in its beauty. If the pictures are not enough for you, check out the video below! “Wow” would probably be an understatement!
