There have been many versions of the game of golf. As previously posted, there is the Footgolf World Championships or perhaps a game of golf and tennis combined? Although the latter is not an official event yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was sooner or later! However, another version of golf has been introduced and this is not that different from the traditional game of golf. Whether it’s on the PGA Tour or just at your local public golf course, slow play is an issue. Well, one place where slow play won’t be an issue is at the Speedgolf World Championships! The inaugural Speedgolf World Championships was held at the famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on October 20-21, 2012. 45 amateurs and 15 professionals made up the field at this event and they were all competing for a $50K purse!
With a few exceptions, the rules of Speedgolf is simple as it is basically the same as regular golf. To speed up the game, you are now allowed to putt with the flagstick in and any lost balls or shots out of bounds will be considered a lateral hazard. To win at Speedgolf, you must attain the lowest combined score of your golf score and the amount of time it takes you to finish the round. For example, a golf score of 70 in 90 minutes will get you a score of 160. Check out the video above as the Speedgolf participant shoots a score 70 in 54 minutues! If it looks interesting, perhaps look into joining next year’s tournament! Cardio training is most likely recommended! If you want to learn more about Speedgolf, don’t forget to watch the Speed Golf World Championships, airing on CBS on April 13 (Masters Saturday) this year!
