Callaway Golf is getting a lot of attention these days! Phil Mickelson went wire to wire in last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open and got a lot of golfers looking up statistics in golf history. On the first day, Phil missed his chance for a round of 59 after his birdie putt lipped out. The second day, he missed out on the lowest 36-hole record. After shooting 60-65-64-67, Phil finished at 28-under 256, two strokes off the PGA Tour record of 254 set by Tommy Armour III in the 2003 Texas Open. Some other statistics include a course-record 9-under on the four par-3 holes and hitting 63 of the 72 greens in a regulation. Mickelson has a 10-year winning streak, the longest active run on the tour, and has victories in 20 seasons, third behind Sam Snead (24) and Jack Nicklaus (21). Mickelson is ninth on the career victory list (41), four behind No. 8 Walter Hagen, and 9 away from his goal of 50 career victories.
Phil attributed much of his success this past week to his driving – after putting the RAZR Fit Xtreme in his bag this week, his driving accuracy and distance has improved significantly. If he can keep this up, it’s going to be a lot of fun watching Phil the Thrill this year! The driver is suppose to be Callaway’s longest and straightest driver ever. They even let golfer’s customize the paint options of the club, including Superbowl edition drivers!
Other Callaway golfers also made headlines, with James Hahn giving viewers a bit of “GangHahn Style” on the 16th green after a long birdie putt! The 16th is always one of the loudest and funnest holes on tour and a new tradition may have started this year – check it out below!
