After day 1 of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Phil Mickelson leads the tournament by four strokes with a score of 60. That’s right, Phil shot 11-under for his first round however, he sure doesn’t seem too happy about it. Post round, Phil used words such as disappointing, crushing, unfortunate and even describing his round as something that mortifies him! What could possibly make Phil so upset after posting a score of 60?!
By now, most golf fans would have heard that Phil had a 25-foot birdie putt on his 18th hole to post a score of 59! Only five players have posted a score of 59 on the PGA Tour and making history was definitely on his mind. Unfortunately for Phil, despite hitting what seemed like a perfect putt, the ball didn’t drop for him and horseshoed out. It’s heartbreaking to read about it but wait until you watch the video. Heartbreaking is an understatement and you can tell from the reactions from Phil to his caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay and other fellow caddies in the group. On the bright side, Phil shot 60 and is leading the tournament. Can’t be all bad right?
