The first tournament of the 2013 season is over and done with in Hawaii. The PGA tour will stay in Hawaii however, it will move from Maui to Honolulu this coming week for the Sony Open, where Johnson Wagner will try to defend his title. As we get closer to February, we get closer to one of the more unique tournaments on the PGA Tour, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, held this year from February 7-10.
Started in 1937 by Bing Crosby, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am takes place at three courses, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Monterey Peninsula CC. For those unfamiliar with the format, there are a total of 156 professionals and 156 amateurs to start the tournament, with one professional being paired with one amateur. The 52 2-man teams will play on one of the three courses each day. If the team is able to make the 54-hole cut, they will go on to play on the Pebble Beach Golf Links!
Many famous amateurs have participated in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, including Glenn Frey, Kevin Costner, Steve Young, George Lopez, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Carson Daly. The most famous of all is probably Bill Murray, who always seem to do something out of the ordinary to steal the show! In the January 2013 issue of GQ Magazine, GQ provides an interesting interview with Bill Murray and claims he could be President!
