Course of the Week: Terrace Downs Resort

Our last “Course of the Week” entry for 2012! This week, we’re staying in the New Zealand area and introducing the golf course at Terrace Downs Resort in Canterbury, New Zealand. The golf course at Terrace Downs is a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course and is rated one of the top courses and golfing destinations in New Zealand. It is based at the foothills of the Southern Alps and provide amazing mountain views that stretch to the horizon – there are very few scenic alpine courses like this in the world!

The course officially opened in December 2001 and offers a unique mixture of Parklands and Links style golf. Like most golf courses we’ve featured, the philosophy during the course development was to integrate the course into it’s natural surrounding environments, which they have done beautifully. They’ve also maximized the scenic mountain views on every hole as well – the views of Rakaia Gorge definitely make it hard to keep your eye on the ball, as it is so beautiful! In addition to mountain views, the course also incorporates 11 lakes, as well as 70 bunkers – lots of challenges for all players!

In addition to golf, Terrace Downs also offers a lot of different activities. During the winter, you can stay at Terrace Downs and have access to several mountains – Methven, Mt. Hutt and Porters Ski Area. Hunting, fishing, horse safaris, clay pigeon shooting, archery, jet boating, tennis and a spa are also available for guests to enjoy there time at Terrace Downs.
