Course of the Week: Kananaskis Country Golf Club

This week, we take our Course of the Week out to the Canadian Rockies! Located just an hour away from Calgary and Banff, Kananaskis Country Golf Club is surrounded by mountains towering over 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) above sea level, providing an unforgettable backdrop to your golfing experience. Even the two courses at Kananaskis Country Golf Club are at almost 5,000 feet (1,500 metres)!

There are two courses at Kananaskis Country Golf Club, Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd Courses. These courses were “named for the soaring limestone peaks that serve as their breathtaking backdrop.” Situated in the Kananaskis Valley among boreal forest, the courses are characterized by their immaculate lush fairways, bent grass greens and over 140 silica sand bunkers. There are also four sets of tee boxes, allowing golfers of all skill levels to test their game in this amazing environment. Where else can you find a golf course surrounded by glacier fed creeks and ponds, the cascading Kananaskis River and a variety of wildlife? Parts of Bourne Legacy were also filmed near Kananaskis Country Golf Club, and the staff were fortunate enough to capture some pictures of the wolves who starred in the movie!

If you saw “Our Longest Drive” on the Golf Channel, you know that three buddies, along with the ashes of their friend, set out on an adventure of a lifetime, driving over 5,500 miles to play golf in the Arctic Circle. On their way, they passed by the Canadian Rockies and managed to sneak some golf in Banff, near the region of the Kananaskis Country Golf Club.

As Jim Thompson from the show said,”I’ve never played in a more stunning and beautiful surrounding. All of our jaws dropped as we stepped to each new tee. Golf shots hung in the sky a little longer and landed a little softer against a backdrop of tall pines and colored rock and sunny snow caps that comprised the biggest mountains we’d ever been next to. Add in a couple waterfalls (made solely by nature, of course) and streams rushing harder from the snowmelt. There is no place like this. None.” With such a strong endorsement of the Banff region, be sure to consider Kananaskis Country Golf Club for your next golf vacation!
