What a way to finish the 2012 European Tour Season! The 2012 DP World Tour Championship Dubai was hosted at the Jumeirah Golf Estates and was the season ending tournament. It was a tight leaderboard all week with world number 1 Rory McIlroy and world number 2 Luke Donald at the top tied for first at the beginning of Sunday.
But it wasn’t just McIlroy and Donald that were in the mix – Justin Rose, who was tied for 7th after three rounds, shot an amazing 62 (a new course record!) to surge into contention. Rose ended up shooting 10-under for the day with one eagle and eight birdies and finished the tournament at 21-under. This put a lot of pressure on McIlroy, who birdied the last five holes of the tournament to finish and 23-under, two shots ahead of Rose. This 23-under total also tied the course record for the tournament. Donald, who started off well ended his streak of 102 holes without a bogey after three putting the third hole – he ended tied for 3rd with Charl Schwartzel at 18-under (18-under par!)
What a year McIlroy had… Winner of the Honda Classic, PGA Championship (major!), Deutsche Bank Championship, BMW Championship, the Ryder Cup and now the Dubai World Championship! This was McIlroy’s fifth victory of the 2012 season – and perhaps his last with his Titleist clubs! Will we see McIlroy playing and winning with Nike clubs next year? We can’t wait to see what the 2013 season has in stored! Check out the video below for an inteview with McIlroy!
