UBS Urban Golf Challenge

On the night before the first round of the UBS Hong Kong Open, Rory McIlroy wins the “Urban Golf Challenge.”  McIlroy competed against Ryder Cup teammate Paul Lawrie, Ryder Cup captain José María Olazábal, Matt Kuchar and local amateur Steven Lam in closest to the pin. The par three was set in the heart of Hong Kong in Central District, surrounded by the city’s iconic skyline.

Is this win foreshadowing a result that we should be expecting on Sunday?  McIlroy won this event last year and finished runner-up in 2008 and 2009.  He counts Hong Kong and the UBS Hong Kong Open as one of his favourite cities and courses in the world.  McIlroy has also recently won the Vardon Trophy as well as the PGA Player of the Year award.  The PGA Player of the Year is awarded on a points system, while the Vardon Trophy is given to the player with the lowest adjusted scoring average, based on a minimum of 60 rounds, with no incomplete rounds, in events co-sponsored or designated by the PGA Tour.  This should be an exciting week of golf in Hong Kong, as well as in Australia and Japan!
