Rory McIlroy & Titleist to Part Ways

On Tuesday morning, Titleist and Footjoy parent company Acushnet announced their business relationship with Rory McIlroy will not be renewed at the end of 2012. As widely speculated, Nike has offered Rory a 10-year contract worth approximately $250 million. Although that has not been confirmed, today’s announcement is the first step in making Rory and Nike a reality. Could this be a case of where there is smoke, there is fire?

There has been no shortage of opinion and Sir Nick Faldo was quite outspoken on Rory changing equipment, calling the move “dangerous.” Sir Nick Faldo goes on to say that “you have to be very, very careful. You easily could go off and do this and it messes you up because it just doesn’t quite feel the same. When you’re striping it, it’s fine. But as soon as doubt comes in…” Only time will tell if Rory made the right decision in changing equipment. We definitely wouldn’t mind seeing Rory swing the new Nike driver in 2013 though!
