The trend for this Fall seems to be new long iron replacements that are more forgiving to hit. The first thought is that these are traditional Hybrid clubs but the designs are trending towards more of a Hybrid Long Iron. What this means is that these new long iron replacements actually look more like your traditional irons! From the Callaway X Prototype Utility Irons to the Titleist 712U Utility Irons, companies are pushing these new clubs out and Mizuno is the latest to join the party.
Aside from the obvious goal of being forgiving, Mizuno also designed the MP-H4s to fit in seamlessly to any of their other MP iron sets. However, it differs in that the MP-H4 irons are hollow constructed, which “allows greater weight to be placed low and deep within the clubhead.” This results in a higher launch angle and a softer landing path. Higher ball speed and more distance are also produced from additional face flex due to a grain flow forged face, neck and sole. Although the release of the MP-H4 irons was slightly delayed, Mizuno plans to ship the MP-H4 long irons to European retailers on November 12th. They will be available from 2-5 irons and can be custom fitted as well!
