TaylorMade Rocketbladez Irons

Mark King, TaylorMade’s President and CEO, introduced the company’s newest irons, the RocketBladez and RocketBladez Tour, during a live webcast today.

The RocketBladez irons are an evolution of the TaylorMade Burner irons. The goal was to manufacture irons that had springy and powerful faces, which was very popular among many different types of players. A new feature in the RocketBladez irons adds to this design.

The RocketBladez irons have stainless steel faces and a large cavity behind it.  This large cavity is meant to lower the centre of gravity of the club, pulling it farther away from the face and making the irons more forgiving and high-flying. This may sound familiar from the Burner irons that TaylorMade introduced several years ago, however, what is new is a 2-millimeter-wide slot in the sole of the 3- through 7-irons.

This is called the “Speed Pocket” and is meant to expand the sweet spot across the face and also allow the face of the iron to move and flex more easily at impact, especially on shots that are hit low in the face. The slot is covered with polyurethane to keep debris out, but also to quiet vibrations. This added face flex due to the Speed Pocket will cause the ball to launch higher and fly 2-5 yards farther and land on a steeper angle of descent so it stops more easily, according to TaylorMade designers.
