Oftentimes, “spy shots” are taken of new model vehicles when they’re going through the road testing phase. Car companies will disguise new features and lines of their future vehicles by covering them with camouflage to keep their competition and the public curious about what’s coming next.
Taylormade has taken this same concept and applied it to their new prototype irons. Sean O’Hair has been testing these prototype irons out on the driving range at the Justin Timberlake Shriner’s Hospitals Open in Las Vegas on Tuesday, but Taylormade has covered the backs of the heads with a swirly camouflage pattern similar to car companies. What is visible is the slit on the sole of the club – any guesses what this feature will be for? Sean O’Hair did comment about these prototype irons and said how easy it is to hit the long irons high with them ballooning, yet still keeping all of the control and shot shaping abilities in the short irons, similar to his blades. There is usually a sacrifice between control and ease of playability, but he hasn’t seen any issues of this kind at all with the prototype irons!
The camouflage is definitely keeping us curious! We’ll most likely find out what’s hidden underneath the camouflage sometime before or at the PGA Merchandise Show in January.
