What a finish! The 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club was full of great matches and a comeback for the ages. Trailing 10 – 6 entering the Sunday singles, Team Europe found some inspiration and played some great golf to retain the cup by winning 8½ of a possible 12 points. The final score ended up being 14½ – 13½ for Team Europe, with Martin Kaymer sinking a par putt to earn the final 14th point.
Ian Poulter also played out of his mind this week, winning all 4 of his matches and improving to 12-3-0 in his Ryder Cup history. Rory McIlroy gave Team Europe a scare this morning when nobody could find him at Medinah. The world’s number one saw that his tee time was set for 12:25pm EST – unfortunately, Chicago is in the central time zone, and his tee time was actually 11:25am. Luckily, he found a police escort to the golf course and showed up with 10 minutes to spare! Just enough time to take a few putts and have an energy bar before teeing off – and eventually beating Keegan Bradley 2 & 1. There were many fans out to watch this year’s Ryder Cup in Chicago – Michael Jordan, two former President Bush’s, Michael Phelps and Justin Timberlake were the most visible celebrities at Medinah, rooting for the American team.
It was a great weekend of competitive golf and we can’t wait until the 2014 Ryder Cup in Gleneagles, Scotland.
