Adam Scott: 2013 Masters Champion

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! OI OI OI! History was made today as Adam Scott became the first Australian to ever win the Masters at Augusta National after a dramatic finish with two clutch putts on the 18th hole and the second hole of the playoff at Hole 10! This certainly eases the heartbreak at the British Open at Royal Litham in 2012, where he bogeyed the last four holes to lose by one to Ernie Els. But what a Sunday at the Masters it turned out to be! The green jacket was for the taking during the second nine on Sunday – Adam Scott, Angel Cabrera, Jason Day and even Tiger Woods had a chance to win. Tiger shot a 70 today, finishing at 5-under par but had in mind that shooting 65 would get him the win outright. Although he didn’t win, he was very accurate on that prediction! Jason Day was also in the mix, starting 3-under on his round in his first two holes. But two late bogeys in his round kept him one shot out of the playoff. Furthermore, 14-year-old Tianlang Guan finished as the low amateur at Augusta – we’re sure that his participation will have a huge impact on golf in China.

After holing a HUGE birdie putt on the 72nd hole, Adam Scott showed huge emotions, screaming “C’MON, AUSSIE!” as he held a one shot lead with Angel Cabrera still in the fairway. After seeing Scott birdie the hole, Cabrera took his approach shot and stuck it to a couple of feet for a near tap-in birdie to force the playoff. And what a playoff it turned out to be – after both players shot par on the first playoff hole (18th), they moved to the second playoff hole (10th) where Cabrera teed off with an iron while Scott piped his 3-wood down the middle! Both players were in good position in the fairway and put it on the green, where Cabrera’s birdie putt JUST slid by the hole! It was down to one last putt for Scott, who admitted he couldn’t even see because it got so dark! Luckily, with Stevie Williams’ experience as a caddie for 14-time major champion, Tiger Woods, he gave Scott the perfect read – about two cups outside the hole. And the rest is history!
