18 Holes with Greg Norman

norman-forbes01

Before Tiger Woods and after the era of Jack Nicklaus, the game of golf was dominated by the Shark, Greg Norman. Greg was the world’s top ranked golfer for a total of 331 weeks, a record eclipsed only by Tiger Woods. The careers of great players are defined by Major championships and despite winning two majors, Greg had a share of the lead or was leading a Major championship on the final day 12 other times! Monte Burke of Forbes had the great opportunity to play 18 holes of golf with the Shark and his story will appear in the June 24, 2013 issue in a few days!

Life after golf has been busy for Greg Norman. From his business endeavors through his company Great White Shark Enterprises to just having fun, Greg barely has time to squeeze in a round of golf these days! But when your company “designs golf courses; builds resorts; sells clothing, wine and beef; runs investment funds; and produces three PGA Tour events,” one can understand the shortage of time in a day! Greg has also been named the official advisor to the Chinese Olympic golf team and perhaps it was great foresight by him as he made his first visit to China 22 years ago for an exhibition tournament.

The story also delves into what Greg is probably most infamously known for, his breakdown at the Majors. The Shark seems at peace with his near misses at the Majors and even called the Forbes story cathartic! The story was a very good read and the Shark agrees! We just wish that with all that they discussed, Monte and Greg really could’ve done a small book!
