In part one of CNN Living Golf, we had a short history lesson on the Ryder Cup, in particular the role of 1985 European Ryder Cup team, Tony Jacklin. As we continue this preview, CNN’s Shane O’Donoghue takes us to Belfry’s Brabazon Course, a golf course full of history and drama from the four Ryder Cups it hosted from 1985 to 2002.
The Brabazon course at the Belfry played a key part in Europe’s Ryder Cup success. The reason this ‘US-style’ course was built was to allow European players to play in similar conditions as they would in the US. Of course, you can’t perfectly replicate those conditions but what was created was a great test of golf that offered an extraordinary finish!
This was never more apparent than in the 1985 Ryder Cup when drama unfolded in a way that golf has rarely seen. One of the holes that offered more drama in particular was the 311-yards par 4 10th, a classic risk and reward scenario. CNN Living Golf also profiles Seve Ballesteros, a legend and one of the best match play golfers in the history of the game.
