The Memorial Tournament is taking place this week at Jack’s place – Muirfield Village Golf Club. Jack Nicklaus had a vision to build a golf course and bring a world class event to his home state of Ohio, to pay back the people that have supported him throughout his life and career.
Nicklaus originally purchased 180 acres in the village of Dublin, where Nicklaus and his father hiked before. Eventually he would acquire 1,580 acres, though the golf club sits on 240, the rest being transformed into the surrounding residential community (in which Nicklaus has a home tucked into a secluded corner near the course). Once the land was purchased, it took six years before construction began, and four more years until Nicklaus’ masterpiece was complete.
